Our Story
Luna Looms began as a designer’s dream and has grown into something far greater. Today, it represents a global collaboration of skilled artisans and partners who share a commitment to exceptional craftsmanship.
In a small town in India, a family’s story has been quietly woven into wool for more than a century. Since 1913, generations of skilled hands have carried forward the art of loom weaving—each rug a continuation of tradition, craftsmanship, and time-honored technique passed down through the years.

WHIRL THE LOOM
Our process begins with the finest New Zealand wool, prized for its softness and durability. The wool is carefully cleaned, handcarded, and spun into yarn using traditional spinning wheels. Each strand is then dyed in small batches and hung to dry under the sun, allowing the colors to develop beautiful depth while maintaining the wool's natural character.
KNOT BY KNOT
After the wool has dried, it is wound into balls and prepared for weaving. Each Luna Looms design serves as a guide for the artisans, indicating where every color and knot belongs. On the loom, each rug is then hand-knotted one knot at a time using traditional Turkish and Persian techniques—a meticulous process that requires patience, rhythm, and generations of craftsmanship.
POLISH & POP
Each rug is gently washed to remove any remaining dust or dye while softening the wool and enriching its color and texture. After drying, the rug is precisely sheared to an even height, refining the pattern and creating a luxuriously soft feel underfoot. The hand-finished fringe, edge binding, and stretching—are completed with meticulous care. Every rug is then thoroughly inspected to ensure it meets quality standards before being prepared for shipment. This final stage ensures your rug lays beautifully, ages gracefully, and is made to be enjoyed for generations.
